I'm hoping to try and film "Besh N'de" -- the knife fighting ideas I learned from my teachers on the Ft. Apache agency.

And, for the record: There is NO "handed down traditional Apache codified martial art" that I could find. And I searched everywhere in the Apache Nations. Anybody claiming otherwise is probably a fraud. Never heard of "wolverine" style, etc. Apacheland has no wolverines. Be wary of the typical Plains Indian Hollywood names too -- Iron Eyes, Wolf Tooth, Yellow Feather, etc. For years, Apaches were assigned #'s on the reservations, no indigenous names. At the turn of the last century, some kind-hearted liberals in NYC thought that practice was horrible, so they assigned all the Apaches names from a local phone book!

I learned ideas, I was retold old 'Apache War' combat stories, I was shown what was physically remembered from the elders (not much), and what was eventually employed by Grandpa Canyon and his friends both in combat and in civilian use.

What I was taught is the "knife fighting" Canyon and some of the other elders played "way back" when they were young men.

Canyon was a combat Marine (1st Div.) who did 18 mos. in Korea during the war. He told me a lot of miserable war stories. Lots of death and hand-to-hand action. He used his bayonet more than once and wound up, more often than not, utilizing a Chi Com PPSh SMG due to running out of ammo mowing down hordes of N.Koreans\Red Chinese...

Anyways, he had some battletricks that his grandfather had shown him before shipping out. After he returned, Canyon just lived on the rez. However, he and some other combat vets (unemployed and bored) sought work off-rez in the very WHITE & very prejudiced resort towns of Pine Top & Show Low. The Apaches weren't too welcomed there back then (even now, there is still a racial separation). Don't go to Charlie's Steakhouse if you're Apache (or Mexican).

In order to maintain their skills & to help eleviate boredom\excess energy, Canyon & his friends practiced "besh" -- knife fighting, and the knife training method called "besh lichii" NOTE: I cannot utilize proper Apache written accent marks or certain letters since they aren't part of a standard keyboad.

It is a simple system and quite effective, especially when employed aggressively & w\a thorough understanding of the strategies involved. Canyon said he remembered there were many fist fights, knife fights and even some shootouts between cowboys and Indians back in his day. The stuff works.

I also hope to maybe film some more SOMA (next progression) and empty-hand combatives. Possibly the base primers for Capuan Boxing and Jun Fan kung fu (rooftop style). I also have LOTS of eskrima to download too.

Producing, filming, editing, etc. these visual notes is a lot of work. But, all I need is the Bone Head skeleton crew: me, Troy, Tyr, Jotunn...

We'll see!

Do a Harimau tape. There is not alot out there. The late Herman Suwanda has some old ones. His sister Rita has some Tiger Langka tapes. There is some old seminar tapes of Richard DeBordes as well. His Paladin stuff wasn't too good, and apparently he was not happy with it.

Ground Tiger would be a great addition to the Silat series.

This might sound a little off the beaten path but it might be a good idea. You should try a video on the application of brass knuckles; different ranges, conditioning, ground uses, stuff like that. Its kinda illegal in alot of areas but one day they will return.

Cestus! You gona show the Matjan from the Bilangguan system or more of the Malay tiger styles?

Sometimes I cant believe some of the data we basically give to everyone! I was just telling Torke' lets not give to much info and keep them guessing, but he insists on documenting it how he learned it. Then I think lets not release some things, that it is has to much value and people just steal and bastardize it. Then again it is just our basics, and it is the culmination of the styles and our training methods that set us apart and not to mention battle luck and lots of Yashai battle tricks lol!

Silat 3 is the best explanation and demonstration of a take down system that I have ever seen in person much less on DVD! Only good feedback from experienced martial artists. Done with live blades and empty hand applications, either you get it or you don't.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I often feel like a kid in a candy shop when I'm training with Sifu. I want to keep the "candy shop" all too myself. But, then I remind myself that even if the documentation is "out-there," only the the truly hungry are going to seek it out. I think it's good to document because, if anything, it helps us Yashai review our basics....especially when Sifu's availability is taken up by prior engagements (seminars, privates, training engagement, and other things....).

Another aspect of bilangguan estilo is an exercise called "tigre lima" or the 5 tigers. It's a method of fighting off the ground. We'll probably try and document that.

I also have some training in Indo (Minang) "tiger" fighting. I learned it as "Matjan". I can show a few moves.

Jotunn & oedipulogia  (now there’s a “complex” moniker ):

re  documenting and giving out data. You guys mentioned it, but [besides of course keeping some battle tricks to one’s self] Blaise knows that you could spell it out in detail and all its glory, and without someone putting in the hard work, training and dedication that goes along with it, these are merely just techniques, just movements that won’t mean shit or will probably get you hurt. There are already a bazillion tapes, disks, youtubes etc out there already…. ‘bout every known “technique” has been put on vid & sold. But everyone is not proficient at all this info, are they?

I also think that is why Blaise has always referred to his instructionals as “Visual Notes”; they were always meant as a reference log of fundamentals of his systems to be used by people trained under him or under his guys as to not stray too far. And to document, “THIS IS HOW I TAUGHT IT.” The “tricks” to make them work and “secrets” of the techs develop from training it into the ground.

I don’t mean to speak for cestus, but this is my perception.

& re cestus' last post & Matjan.... "reeeeeeeerrrr"

I know Holden's post is old, but I am surprised that with all the knuckle work I've done with & seen cestus do that he doesn't have some cool footage of it. Hand enhancers have always been a personal favorite of mine & I know of cestus'... we've trained'em a bit...

...I mean his call sign for the interwebs is "cestus"... I'm just sayin'....

I think folks will learn a lot from this particular dvd project.

We went down Sifu Bruce's "Basics" list and explained \ demo'd the proper Jun Fan striking method. It's a pretty complete stand-up style. Great for street fight (defense) or for rooftop brawls vs. other "martial artists" or fighters.

Also covered are the essentials of Jun Fan Wing Chun. The form and use of all the basic Wing Chun techniques are covered. Coupled w\the Bruce Lee method of striking \ bridging \ entering, JFWC is very effective and I show it. I've had the honor of learning Wing Chun from many great masters and I want to make sure that their legacy of battle learned combat techniques is preserved.

Jotunn & I spent quite a bit of time downloading the many hours of tape that we filmed when he visited Cali last.

I really liked the Jun Fan footage. And I'm my worst critic.

And the bilangguan estilo footage is simply brutal...(for informational purposes only).

Can't wait to see the final cuts (pun intended).

For the most part, "Jun Fan basic strikes", is a completed project.

Lots of work...many hours...but worth it.

I am very proud of this particular dvd. The proper striking basics of the Jun Fan fighting method are discussed and demonstrated. A great way for anyone to improve his \ her stand-up striking game.

The curriculum is verbatim what Sifu Bruce Lee had posted on the wall of his L.A. Chinatown kwoon.

As usual, my training partner (Troy Irwin) helped me to demo the techniques perfectly. THANKS Brother!

Thanks again Jotunn for all of your hours in the "edit bay"!
